Biography:
- Completed his Bachelor’s degree in psychology (Magna Cum Laude) at Southern Nazarene University, a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology at Nova Southeastern University, and his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University in Chicago.
- He completed his internship at the University of Notre Dame and post-doctoral training at Kingwood Hospital.
- Is licensed in Indiana and Louisiana.
- Dr. Courtney has earned a certificate of prescriptive authority in Louisiana and is licensed to prescribe medication in that state.
- Was board-certified by the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology in 2000, by the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology in 2006, and the American Board of Medical Psychology in 2007.
- Has served as Treasurer and President of the Indiana Psychological Association.
- Dr. Courtney has served the Indiana Psychology Licensing Board as an appointed practice monitor since 1999.
- Has served as the President and Executive Director of the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology. He is currently an examiner for this board.
- Dr. Courtney sees children from the ages of 2 – 21, with particularly interest in attentional and learning disorders, Autism, Asperger’s Disorder, atypical developmental delays, seizures, and traumatic brain injury. He also provides consultation to physicians regarding psychopharmacological management of psychiatric disorders.
- He is regularly retained and appointed in both civil and criminal matters, assisting the court in determining the extent or existence of neurological and psychological impairment in forensic matters.
- Dr. Courtney is the co-author and co-editor of the text, The Practice of Neuropsychology as well as numerous published papers on subject children’s motivation and effort during psychological testing, the release of raw-testing protocols to the court, and regarding litigant/non-litigant symptom presentation. He has served on the faculty at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University, South Bend Campus and the University of North Texas, Health Sciences Center. He has also given invited lectures or provided consultations regarding pediatric neuropsychology throughout the US and internationally.
- He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and a member of the International Neuropsychological Society, the American Psychological Association, the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychologists, a registrant in good standing with the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and possesses the Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology (CPQ). He is also a fellow of the American College of Professional Neuropsychology.
- Dr. Courtney speaks English and conversational Portuguese.
- Dr. Courtney is the Director of the Department of Psychology at Children’s Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana.
