Examination Procedure
Standards for Board Certification
Members of American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology are required to have had a careful examination of their background and training before they are invited to submit to a knowledge and practical skills examination by their peers. The basis of this examination includes a review of the following areas:
- Assessment
- Intervention
- Pediatric Neurosciences
- Ethics and legal issues
- Consultation
- Supervisory Skills
Examination Procedures
- After the applicant's file is complete, at least two reviewers will review the application for the requisite training, experience, and licensure;
- If the applicant's file is acceptable for candidacy, the applicant will be invited to submit one original written work sample that is no more than 1 year old. This sample must include: a copy of the applicant‘s original report; a summary score sheet; and a completely scored, identity-redacted copy of the raw data; and any other necessary explanatory material. These will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers already holding ABPdN board certification;
- The practice sample is required 30 days prior to the date the applicant takes the written and oral examination. The written exam consists of 100 questions regarding the basic Standard Areas above. The oral exam, administered by three board certified members, is broken into three parts:
- 1) Case fact finding;
- 2) Review of written sample, and;
- 3) Ethical and legal issues pertaining to practice.
The applicant will be informed of the outcome of his or her examination within 6 weeks following the exam.
